10 SEO Tips for Your Website

Have you recently built a brand-new website? Amazing! Sadly, no one actually sees it so it isn’t living up to his potential. Here are a few excellent SEO tips and tricks to rank higher in Google, Bing, and other search engines.

Tip #1: Create a Well-Designed Website

Does your website have a sitemap? If not, you’re missing a key component to search engine optimization.

The search engines will crawl and index pages based on the information gathered from this file. They will also crawl your audios and videos as well. Both being in Google have excellent sitemap generators, so please use one to improve your chances of ranking higher in the search engines.

Tip #2: Choose Relevant Keywords

It’s important to choose relevant keywords that will attract visitors to your website because people will be searching for them.

For example, if your website is about purple widgets, you must discover all of the best keywords related to this topic and add them to your content. You’ll also want to add these keywords to meta-descriptions, alt attributes, header tags, and the URL.

Tip #3: Create Consistent Quality Content

The quality of your content will also play a role in whether or not you rank highly within the search engine.

For example, if you want to teach someone how to replace the lead on their blue widget, you’ll need to answer the question thoroughly and then provide detailed instructions for your readers. Avoid rambling on about adjacent topics that aren’t necessarily specifically relevant to the article in question.

Tip #4: Create Compelling Headlines and Page Titles

Sticking with our example, it’s all well and good to read an article about purple widgets, but you’ll rank higher if you get the page title and headline correct.

Page titles, for example, are very keyword-centric. These are specifically designed to appeal to the search engines. Headlines, on the other hand, should be punchy, snappy, and convince people to click through to your article and share it when they are done.

An example of an excellent page title is “Purple Widgets Review.” An example of an excellent headline is “10 Reasons Why Purple Widgets Are Making a Comeback in 2023.”

Tip #5: Make Sure Your Images Are Optimized

First, shrink your images down to a much more manageable size. Resize your images to a maximum 1920 x 1080-pixel resolution. WEBP and JPEG formats contribute to quicker load times, so make sure your images are in these file formats. Search engines hate slow loading websites.

Tip #6: Minimize Website Load Time

Google’s market research tells us that when it comes to mobile audiences, 53% will bounce from your site if it takes over three seconds to load. Quick load times are critical to prevent users from bouncing.

How can you minimize load time? Use any of the following tools to analyze your websites speed:

  • Google PageSpeed Insights
  • Google’s Test My Site
  • Pingdom

Each of these tools provide detailed information to improve website load times. Follow their instructions to the letter.

Tip #7: Write Detailed Meta-Descriptions

The purpose of the meta-description is to explain the overall purpose of your webpage, and in an in-depth way. Longer descriptions (roughly 150 characters) are a great idea. Avoid stuffing meta-descriptions with all of your keywords because search engines frown upon this tactic.

Tip #8: Internal Linking

Use internal links naturally and sparingly. And always make sure that your internal links work. Broken links are a negative signal to Google and they will penalize your website because of them.

Tip #9; Remove Dead Pages from Your Website

Do you have webpages that deliver zero traffic? Remove them and Google will likely reward you with more traffic and higher rankings.

Tip #10: Update Old Pages and Blog Posts

Are some of your blog posts and webpages collecting digital dust? Updating the pages with fresh and relevant new content will likely improve your rankings.

By implementing these 10 tips, your website will get better rankings, more traffic, more clickers, and more sales.
